
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) uses a variety of equipment to keep tabs on air quality near Barnett Shale natural gas drilling operations. The yellow VRAE hand-held air monitors can detect explosive gases and stainless steel canisters hold air samples for analysis at a lab.
Six mobile monitors currently placed around the region track volatile organic compounds, such as benzene. These monitors look like small trailers with antennas. Additional monitors are planned for 2011
