Ten U.S. utilities brought 561 megawatts (MW) of solar power online in 2010, effectively doubling their solar capacity from the prior year, says a recent report from the Solar Electric Power Association (SEPA).

California's Pacific Gas & Electric topped SEPA's list by contributing over 157 MW to the installed solar total. Florida Power & Light (FP&L) came in second, contributing over 87 MW. Pictured above is FP&L's Kennedy Space Center solar farm installation.

This coming week, SEPA hosts the Utility Solar Conference in San Diego, California, geared exclusively toward industry participants seeking to develop long-term strategies and business models that incorporate solar energy.
