Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) in California has a vocal group of utility customers who want no part of new digital smart metering technology. The solution: an opt-out choice -- for a cost.
Some Las Vegas residents also want to opt out of standard smart meter operations.

What kind of an opt out is it if you have to pay to not be a part of being screwed. And not just once, but every month!
I don’t mind PG&E using smart meters to read the meters. It is more convenient and safer for meter readers. But using the information to change how much I am charged for electricity according to the time of day is a scam. What of the stay at home mother with kids in Fresno, in the summer time. Is she going to be charged more for daytime use because she is home all day with kids?
This scam should never been allow to get off the ground.
