Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007

Definition: The Energy Independence and Security Act (EISA) of 2007 is designed to improve energy efficiency and promote renewable energy through these key provisions:

  • increase average "corporate average fuel economy" (CAFE standards)
  • increase the "renewable fuels standard" (RFS)
  • increase energy efficiency of lighting and appliances
  • repeal two tax subsidies of oil and gas
It also sets forth guidelines for energy use by federal agencies, as explained in this EISA Web page from the Federal Energy Management Program.
